Heavy chillers flown from US to Qatar

Compass Forwarding chartered the Antonov An-225 Mriya – the world’s largest aircraft – for a July 2 flight that brought five critically-needed air conditioning units from Minneapolis, Minnesota, to a construction site in Doha, Qatar.

The chartered An-225 carried five air conditioner chillers weighing a total of 87.5 tonnes from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to Doha’s new Hamad International Airport via France. The chillers were delivered for a fast-track hotel renovation project in Doha, the New York-based freight forwarder said in a statement.

With short notice and only one week to react, Compass was able to fast-track the logistics and secure resources for this project, including putting personnel on the ground to monitor and ensure the cargo on an expedited basis.

The An-225 is a Ukrainian strategic airlifter originally developed for use by the Soviet Union’s space program. The six-engine aircraft has a 43-meter-long cargo bay capable of carrying up to 253 tons.
